Anyone know where I can hire a braked trailer for 6m speedboat? Somewhere accessible to Bristol would be ideal.

I've done some Google searches, but the closest places I can find are Winchester and Worthing.

Alternatively, would anyone like to hire me their own trailer for a week or two? :)

If you know your way around trailers, you are welcome to borrow mine free of charge (need suitable ID of course). It's designed for 6.5 metre, so will take 6 no prob, and has multiple swivelling rollers, so will take any shape hull. SBS, in extremely good nick last time I looked. Reason I say you need to know your way around is that it has been sitting in a field near Lymington, so may need bearing/brake service before it's towed - but that's probably cheaper than hiring??

Blimey! Many thanks. Sounds like an offer I can't refuse!

Personally I dont know much about trailer maintenance, as I dont have one. But I know a man who does...

Not sure if I can persuade him to take a day off work for a day trip to a field in Lynmouth though. I'll have to talk to him nicely and see what he says.

Do you still have the boat that came with the trailer?

Just a note of caution. Any trailer will need to be set up for your boat to ensure nose weight is correct, winch is correctly positioned, rollers do not create pressure points etc.

Brendan's offer is still very generous

Good point. I know someone who's pretty knowledgeable about this kind of stuff. (Does it for a living.) But I think the job might take a fair amout of lagerial lubrication.

It sounds like Brendan's trailer is quite versatile. Is it likely it could be adjusted by someone who knew what they were doing, without messing it up for Brendan?

I'd rather keep it, in the hope that I can get the time to trail to Scotland at some point, but more than happy to lend it for extended periods, as I've done in the past.

I'll take it on trust that you take good care of it...always worked for me in the past, but would like to know more about you for obvious reasons.

It's got swivelling double banks of rollers, that have taken all the boats thrown at it so far, and really shouldn't need any adjustment for a 6 m boat. The load is dispersed across the hull because the rollers swivel to fit and because double banked, the load spread quite wide.

As long as the engine aft of the double axles (which it will be on a 6m) there shouldn't be a problem with weight distribution, but you can always fix this with a few sand bags or similar tied down weights if it's an issue.

Anyway, after you've weighed options, the offer is there. Do you know how to PM? You can make contact with me privately that way.
