Hi All, after some serious going over I have decided that the boat I am looking at will not be ready to make the passage from Weymouth to Shoreham in the time frame I have available and so will be looking to transport it by road. So, does anyone know where I can rent/borrow/surreptitiously make use of, a suitable trailer?

Will it go on a HIAB?? Alternatively if she's bilge keel any flat trailer should do the job??

I know the boat in question, I think Fantasie 19's suggestion of a flat-bed lorry with a hi-ab would be the answer - but check the weight re the hi-ab.

A chum had his Anderson 22 professionally moved from Emsworth to Scotland on such a vehicle, but Windy may be a touch heavier, doubt there is all that much in it if you do what you can to remove weight - the Anderson 22 is supposedly 2,500lbs bare, but with possible water absorption over the years and all the junk one collects, she must be more.

I would guess that after some time afloat and naturally accumulating junk over the years, your prospective boat will be heavier.

I'd certainly remove the anchor and the outboard, as putting stress on the ends of the boat.

You could try googling trailers for hire, but I know our ( now gone, probably due to attitude ! ) local one, Hayling Trailers, stopped hiring out trailers as they tended to come back trashed; but I think there are still people hiring them out, whether it's worth the cost to and from wherever they are and the hassle of towing is another matter !

There are boat delivery companies which advertise on E-Bay, but I have no idea how good or economic they are; I have learned from these forums that the ideal with boat transport companies is to co-ordinate with a boat going the opposite way, which reduces costs massively - worth consideration but might take a lot of luck to happen, then again her present location is quite an attractive place, so there might be someone wanting to go that way...

I'm quite happy towing it, I have seen some 18' flatbed trailers rated for 3500kg so should be ok, but none around here. I have a buddy who is an SYC member, I'll ask if he will question the bo'sun on my behalf. I think the cost of specialist delivery will probably be prohibitive, but I'll look into it.
