Trailer back from Hamble, great succes! Help with Mylor?!

Hi folks,

Bought the boat back with the trailer and Pajero and it was brilliant. I took the advice and had fitted a Buldog 4000 stabiliser system and it simply was superb. Did it in just over two hours (88 miles) and averaged 45-50mph. Not a wiggle, nothing, even with lorries coming by.

My second thing is I need help, it's a bit of a desperate plee for help. I'm thinking of taking the boat down to Mylor, leaving 3am and doing the bulk of the travel down on empty roads, well not busy roads. But I'm going to be alone and I'm not sure how I'm going to get the boat into the water via the slip either at Mylor. I don't suppose anyone is down there Monday morning that might be prepared to help?

The Paj is great for towing isn't it? Launching is fairly easy single handed, it's recovery that can be a bit of a struggle.
You can tie off your bow rope to the back of the trailer, back 'er in and drive off smartly a few feet which leaves boat behind and afloat but tied to trailer. Hop out, recover bow line from trailer, moor up boat, go off and park. Getting it back on you really need a 2-speed winch and don't put too much trailer in the water so the winch haul keeps it straight coming up the keel rollers.
 
I just read you are planning another trip out soon, if the weather is as good down south as it is in bonnie Scotland at the moment, you should be in for a good time!

oh really! Just the bbc website for weather and the met office. It says East / West split. I hope you are right! Either way we are looking forward to making the most of any weather we have. Mylor looks great too, can't wait, see you Monday! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dont want to worry you but thereis a very steep road down to Mylor harbour. I trailed my 26 foot Firebird down thgere a few years ago and it bottomed on the hill.
I suggest that you have someone walk alongside as you go down - just to make sure.

Dont be put off though - its a fab place.
 
There must be 400 boats a year go down that hill, upto 40 foot on artic trailers, in the last 25 years I do not know to one that has had a problem. Now getting up in the wet is another matter, Mylor tractor has towed many boat up that hill.

It is a short sharp hill, if the tow car is ok for trailer, then no problems.

Don't worry about the hill - you'll have no problems with 4wd even if it's very wet & slippery.

BUT - do make sure you have enough depth of water to launch as there's not a lot at low water. I ended up with my Bayliner stuck half on and half off the trailer there a few years ago. Told SWMBO to back in a bit further and stab the brakes to shake it off: still no good. "Do it again" says I. After the third attempt I realised the whole outfit was actually on the flat bottom of the creek with the water level with the top of the Landruiser's wheels. Full astern and rocking the boat from side to side eventually freed it, but I grounded the drive skeg as she slid off the trailer. Not the slickest of launches, but the Landcruiser dragged itself (and the empty trailer) out with no lasting ill effects so all's well that ends well, I suppose.

And all this with the marina staff watching, having assured me before we started: "Yeah, you'll be alright with that rig, mate - plenty of water". /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
 
of course you mean you'll get there an hour or 2 before then to let the bearings cool down /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
