Very impressive!!!

I was there today looking at a forum members beautiful new boat and gotta say, massively impressive set up! Looks to have everything you could want in a dry stack and soon to be a marina there too.

Wouldn't work for us because of where we live but i really can see the attraction there.

As for the new boat, well will leave it to the owners to "come out" when ready, needless to say, it's a stunner and wish them many happy hours!

Have looked at Trafalgar Wharf before but couple of things put me off.
Long trip to Portsmouth harbour entrance and then can really only turn right down Solent. Plus channel from trafalgar is not presently marked. Though I was in channel but sucked up load silt and 2 new impellors later.
Weight limit on boats is lower than at Saxon wharf.
AND you have to have all electrics isoloated and turned off INC automatic bilge pumps. A faff to be honest. Plus no power up in the racks.

Now if this ever gets built it will be worth looking at

20 mins to the harbour entrance, try Chichester now that is painful. I haven't seen any "no Port turn" notices at the exit of the Harbour so I have turned left on many occasions :) but mind the long invisable concrete wall. There are two poles with diamond shapes on the Trafalgar Wharf wall, line those up from the channel & you can't go wrong, better than bouys in my opinion.

I looked at the drystack a few years ago, the prices were similar to other marinas however the wife was not too keen on sitting on the boat having an impromptu afternoon tea (yeh we know how to live!) if the boat was on the top rack, she suffers from vertigo.:D

in the interest of fairness only (as my colours are squarely nailed to the MDL mast) i have just done some very simple google earth numbers

Trafalgar wharf to end of Portsmouth harbour (at 10 Kts) about 5.5 miles

Saxon wharf to end of Itchen river (at 6 Kts) about 3 miles.

Trafalgar wharf to roughly Calshot spit. 11.5 Miles

Saxon Wharf to roughly Calshot Spit 8 miles

the difference doesn't seem to be as big as some might think (me included)

Yes, power needs to be isolated at Trafalgar but why would you need a bilge pump when you are indoors?

As for the weight limits of the lift... what are you looking to keep in dry stack. both sites have 43 ft boats in the racks. perhaps bigger boats but thats a fairly large lift facility.

i dare say, being away from the scrap metal site at Saxon would be a big benefit for me, as is the appeal of indoor racking.

what struck me when i was there was, they have tried to make it something more than just a racking system and a oversized forklift. there are tables and chairs and a "grass" area and tea and coffee making facilities and perhaps more that i am missing.

There is an onsite brokerage there with numerous boats on display, they are making a small marina area in a flooded dry dock, they appear to have numerous trades on site too. i don't know how that will work but perhaps stack customers will be able to overnight on the water if they so wished?

Add to this, its easy to get to off the M27 / A3. it really does have a lot to offer.

as for the forum swap.. i have a 2.3 bombard if you fancy a straight swap!?:p

Looking very nice ,But then again i am biased
Congratulations on your new purchase.Hope to see you out in and around the Solent

Thanks for those figures Z1ppy. Think like you I was expecting Traflagar
to be a lot further.
I went to Trafalgar when it was about to open, Sounds as though its time for another visit.
Regards weigh heard a rumour that the 43's can not be lifted with full tanks , But then again if there is onsite fuel that is not really too much of a problem.

Yes the scrap yard next door to Saxon is a pain. Hence I now have an all over cover which is left on all year round. Really makes a difference when taking off, The boat is still nice and clean.
For me Saxon is 50 miles door to door and 1 hour. Trafalgar was from memory 1hour 20. Can not remember the distance.
Saxon also has the down side of being near the football stadium so have to time outings to avoid football traffic.
May be need to go and have a look at Trafalgar before i commit to another year.

It does look good from the video off their website, like the outdoor area and the fact you get a text to tell you your boat has been put in, I'm staying at Saxon for another year then will re-evaluate.

A bias I now better understand, and thank you! Thought I wanted an express shaft-drive cruiser so deliberately swerved a 43. I got quite a long way into the upgrade, until the sea trial. No smile turned up on my face that day, unbelievable and unexpected. By massive contrast, within 5 minutes on the RS43, I had a stupid grin that I naively expected the lardy lady with her skirts fully flapping could also deliver. How wrong I was, and how little one must attach to experiences reported even by notable others! Thank goodness for established contract wording, too. Looking forward to getting to plenty of new places in 2014, hope to see you there, too!
