28th June to 3rd July 2005 the Solent will reverberate with sea borne festivities to commerate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, including a fleet review of ships from over 35 nations. Does the panel think that, in line with the wishes of the politically correct aparatchniks, we should take this opportunity to apologise to the French and Spanish for breaking their boats? Perhaps we should pay them financial compensation with 200 years worth of compound interest! It should help improve harmony within the EU!!
Still, at least there will be red, white and blue ensigns in the English fleet at the re-enactment on the weekend. It will be good to see us united in a common cause!

When an old friend of mine was serving in Norfolk VA, he was part of a group who suggested that all the ex pats from the various countries serving there should carry on their traditional celebrations and dinners in accordance with their own country and navy. The Italians were very happy to attend a Taranto night dinner run by the RN to celebrate the decimation of their fleet in WWII by the Fleet Air Arm. I understand that the French refused to attend a Trafalgar night dinner....
