We are anvhored in Hoorn Netherlands. Without moving my head much I can see 20 traditional sailing craft, tjalks, klippers, botters etc and a cog although that may be a replica, not original.
Is there anywhere in UK that you can see so many active traditional craft?
Still seen very few red ensigns and no other ECF burgees.

I think it is the nature of the Dutch beast, the whole nation is geared to water and boating both pleasure and commercial

I presume if you are anchored you must be in the outer harbour? Last year we were in Grashaven. We walked into town to find the whole town one huge fun fair with the rides and stalls along most of the main streets, and thousands of people all enjoying themselves ..... I think it might have been later in the month though. we had 3 days there and thoroughly enjoyed it....

The Cloggies, along with most other maritime nations, are justly proud of their sailing heritage. Sadly we only really began to show interest in ours when it was already to late to save it. Even HMS Victory would have been broken-up had it not been for King Edward VII. She'd been used as a store hulk and then as a target! All very sad.........

Hi
Yes we anchored in the outer harbour. A lovely calm evening but it came on to blow later so an uncomfortable night. We moved to Grashaven in the morning but it's been flat calm since.
I was completely wrong about the number of traditional boats, must be nearer a hundred and mostly actively sailed, not static museums.
What I thought was a cog is in fact a replica of the Halve Maen, a fluyt that Henry Hudson sailed to Canada.
The fair is in town again, most of the streets full of rides and stalls. Can't imagine this happening in Chelmsford

Ipswich Haven Marina this weekend just gone had about 25 traditional gaffers/smacks/wooden bermudians.
