we are doing a trip to Henley with both sets of parents on friday 18th July and we will be staying on board, whilst they stay in a bed & breakfast.
I have since discovered that the traditional boat rally is on that weekend. I was originally hoping to get a mooring on the Regatta area (just up from the Leander club), will this be available or taken up by the rally (I have never been to the rally or even taken the boat to Henley yet, so not sure where the event is actually held).
Would hate to get all that way to find there is no moorings, as I don't really want to moor at the public park nr the river & rowing museum, but would prefer what looks like the quieter setting on the other side.
 
I fear you are knackered. The TBR is held just downstream of Philistine Court and all moorings are reserved in that area. You will find space on the opposite bank but further upstream towards Leander will be a no-no.
The most available moorings will be on the Park.

The Trad Rally site is on Fawley Meadows, downstream of Henley bridge and below Phyllis Court. You may be able to find a mooring on the opposite side of the river and, as your boat is fairly small you might find it easier than most.
I dont know why you are averse to the park area near the Rowing Museum. I frequently stay there without problems.
 
I find the area near the river and rowing museum a great place to moor! Was there a few weeks ago. If you moor further upstream past the car park it quietens down tremendously and is a great place to bob around in your vessel.
 
The moorings opposite are bboked for the Rally weekend as well through Steve Ryan Bell; moor at Medmenham, Remenham, or Fawley and he will collect the money for the moorings, I can get his tel no. if you want to talk about booking something. Remenham closer to the lock would be available, but there's often a Dragon Boat event on as well so the area near the open bar is not available.

Just had a look on my ordnance survey map as not to familar with the area. The place I was hoping to moor was on the Remenham side of the river (on the opposite bank to Henley) and wasn't to bothered if it was away from the centre. Looking on the map, maybe somewhere near Remenham village. Are people saying that this side is used for the rally as well, or is mostly the opposite bank.
Excuse my ignorance but have yet to venture this far with the boat yet. I am hoping to do so this weekend, weather permiting, for our first overnight mooring away from the marina. Hopefully I can suss out some suitable places then.

I seem to remember mooring up on that side opposite Phyllis Court some years ago during the Trad Rally when I had a smaller boat. As ARC says they sometimes have Dragon Boat races further down that stretch. I would get Steves phone number from ARC and give him a ring.

Also, how would the trad boat folk react to a plastic tub mooring up with them!
Seems a shame that we are clashing with the rally, but as it's both mums birthdays on that weekend, plus as they are coming over from Jersey, we can't really change our plans.
 
You wont be allowed to moor with the Trad Rally guys unless you actually book in as an attendee - not sure you even can. Its a highly organised event with lots of shoreside marquees and stands etc as well as the boats themselves.

We live opposite the park and see many boats moored there all the time for days on end. Nothing 'orrible seems to happen especially if you moor between the lock and the islands it's very peaceful. A five minute walk and you're in Henley town centre!

The mooring guy for the area Steve's number is 077747 01314.

No moorings available at all on Fawley Meadow that weekend; deadline of even Trad boats has passed (1st June) and "support boats" (can I say tupperware on this forum?) is very restricted & essentially is for boats where owners have trad day boats. Moorings between Hambleden Lock and Temple Island would be available in abundance, no booking up, and as noted above a (20 minute ish?) walk into Henley. Alternatively the Council's moorings at Mill Meadows, above the bridge on the park leading up to Marsh Lock are a much shorter walk.

The Angel mooring IS very shallow and more than likely taken anyway as it is a busy month in Henley. There are no moorings actually at Marsh Lock but all along the park (on the left going down stream!) Steve does not control the moorings on the park it is the Council. I believe it is £6.50 per 24 hours.
