Well you look like you're having to rough it a bit judging by that rather lovely craft in your avatar. Hope the new business goes well.

Kinda strange. I thought Chappel and Tirader claimed to own the designs and merely subcontract the build to china co. Now it appears china co own the designs and Tirader merely own the Tirader name

Yup, that was what he told everyone but it seems that he was just a humble boat dealer like all the others. Possibly helps to explain how lemons like Gludy's boat got built and Chappell's unwillingness to deal with the probs ie. he had little or no leverage over the factory to get his warranty costs back.
Looks like Kha Shing got shafted by Chappell when he went under or they just got tired of being represented by an a***hole who went bust on a regular basis. Interesting to see how Monte Fino develop the styling of these 3 models 'coz they sure don't fit well with their current range

Trader - A few comments

I was aware long ago that Trader were not investing in new models and did not own the rights. I was also aware that Tony Chappel had once before led a boat agency he owned into bankruptcy and so bringing down a long established family boatyard who were never paid for a boat they built for Chappel's company. There were tragic consequences to that boatyard going under.

I was not surprised to see the buy out of the company that had just gone bankrupt with Chappel's son now in charge. This just after bringing forward the launch of their new model so they could accept deposits on it.

I never did understand how they could get away with that with the builder and it is now clear they did not.

If the boat were properly built and that means proper supervision out in Taiwan - they would be good boats. I hope the new agent sorts out the QT problems and makes a success of it.

At the time of my problems and successful campaign to get most of my money back, I was frankly amazed at the things I discovered and will always be grateful for the administration of this forum allowing my campaign to continue - it proved that they do not bow to commercial pressure.

Recently I was even contacted by the owner of my old boat in order for me to offer him advice on her. Its a small world!

My refund was the price I paid for the boat plus £100,000 towards my £160,000 worth of expenses. So the experience cost me the £60K. I achieved what I requested and had to but back my Squadron 59 which I managed to sell with 2 weeks when they had failed to sell her in 18 months.

I would also like to thank all those on this forum that supported me at the time. I hardly ever visit the forum now (having turned into a raggie) but thought I would drop by to see if anyone had comments on the latest Trader situation.

Gludy, thanks for that update. I followed your story throughout and I really admired your doggedness. Many thanks for that update and good luck in the raggie world.

Quality Not

Regardless of Trader the yard showed no hint of quality control.

They fitted a water maker against a bulkead so that every single control could not be seen or operated - they forgot to properly attach the stern to the boat - they left off fibreglass deflectors so that water was actually directed into the inter-floor space - the engine was so out of alignment that there was no room left on the mounts to adjust it - the keel was filled with a fine white powder under 1 mm of fibreglass and did not survive its first lift out -
Gearbox seals not in place - hydraulics leaking all over the place - plus many more.
This yard produced a boat that could not have passed any sort of quality control and I have heard nothing that changes that situation.

Yet I do know that many older Traders were good boats that once sorted stood the test of time.
