start of the arc at the weekend.... looks like yet again the trades have not turned up... beating to windward for at least a few days... seems it's better to depart late december or even january
Though mind you so far they have mainly made it by mid december so it still works and mostly winds are lighter so strong winds in January may do more damage . Last year was very quiet but still there were rig problems. The ARC also has social advantages .

Ava look at what passageweather is delivering to the west of the Canaries next weekend. I know its a way off in forecasting terms but....
On balance I would have preferred the ARC escape day, 20/20 hindsight being what it is.
I have found crew get the hump a bit when the trade wind dream turns into a lumpy beat. No guts, some people.
Don't tell them, Canaries are a great place for Christmas and New year festivities and then early Jan is the best time to truck over for the Carnival in Trinidad. The ARC parties can't compare to these three events!
