While I agree with you in terms of any achiever deserves the support of their country, I think you are missing the point her about Tracy. We all admit that she has done well and achieved one hell of a lot, but there is a fine line between self confidence and arrogance. Tracy is the wrong side of that line.

On another contentious note you can tell that Emma Richardson is Tracy protege!

Ellen and Pete are a whole different cattle of fish, genuinely talented, very nice, hard working and determind people.

From the way you write you have much greater personal knowledge of Pete, Ellen and Tracy than me. But my limited personal experience of Tracy is that she's totally approachable and very friendly. During the big cat's stay in Liverpool she willingly gave up an afternoon to start a race and present the prizes for the local yacht club [that she had the time available shows how piecemeal the organisation of her stay was].
What I saw that weekend and what I've read suggests that the rifts in both Maiden and R&SA came from people who considered themselves better sailors trying to take over and Tracy being too accommodating for too long, rather than face the problem: hardly a sign of arrogance.

Re: Multihulls

If you had started sailing in a multi I bet you wouldn't dream of having a mono except for convenience! Give em a go.
