Thinking of bare boating one or both of the boats for customers only, ie peeps who have just taken the course. Problem is the close proximity of a certain continent beginnning with A, with the associated d**g smuggling etc. May have to fit a tracker, which would alert if certain latitude crossed.

I would think it is a serious problem where you are, and would fit one incase.
But could /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
Tell the clients that if a certain lat is passed it trigger an auto homing device
or a fuel disabling system.
Or sets off an alarm that cannot be disabled until north of that lat again.

Could get silly here but will resist other ideas thought of!!!!! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

IMOSHO of course,/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I agree with your concern. You should raise the issue with them directly and openly, and i know you would be commanding in this respect.

But the fact is that even with a tracker - what would you do *knowing* where they had been - would it automatically mean that they *must* be druggies? It's a difficult call, no?

Hi Matt , yes difficult, point being though even if you make it clear from the start and get them to sign to the effect that they will not bring back drugs, they may anyway, and its no good if our ship gets impounded, and we as owners are held responsible.

Plus its difficult to say all right you cannot go anywhere near even Ceuta or Tangier. No only option is an automatic engine shut down if they cross a certain latitude.

Try <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.spy-equipment.co.uk/GSM_Alarm/gsm_alarm.html>here</A> may be of some intrest, not sure if it will work offshore

Just out of interest, what might that cost per day?

what the tracker or the charter?

You could get into bother if the now powerless boat had an accident (run down and unable to move etc)?

It's based on mobile phone technology, so once out of cellphone range (ie offshore) then of little use.

For what suncoast has in mind, you'd either need purely gps based technology (no remote control to turn on or off or monitor, and possibly prone to error) or a satellite based system.

Oh the charter, I'll disable the tracker on the way south!
