I have a before mentioned 14 foot RNSA Dinghy with a sliding Gunter rig, which I have to admit is totally alien to me. The Yard is fitted with a track and car/slide however I have also read of the track being on the mast which is a bit more logical to me. Is there a right or wrong or preferred slide location and even better, is there a rigging guide for such things please?

On a Tideway, which is a well known gunter, the slide is on the yard, haul that tight and then the yard is almost vertical. Then haul up the throat halyard and the luff tightens as desired.

The more parallel to the mast the yard is the better. Making a small eye splice for the yard's slider is good since this can fit snug into the sheave for the peak halyard in the mast.

Having re read this post it doesn't make a whole lot of sense but I hope you get the gist.

If the track were on the mast how would you get the slider into it?

Yes, that makes sense however I had not realised there was a separate halyard on the yard throat. I will see if I can find a drawing of the rigging of the Tideway as they are very similar.

Thank you.

As above and the luff of the sail can be laced to the mast if it has lacing eyes. There is a correct way of doing this (that I will not try to explain here), that allows the sail and lacing to be raised and lowered without snarl ups.

The mast lacing is like any gaff main. 'Round and back' is the best way of starting to describe it. Not round and round.....hmmm.

I may be able to find a drawing of the set up. PM me if required.
