I have acquired (legally!) an aged TP2000 to replace my defunct job. If I can use the existing pin in the tiller, installation is straightforward. If I go by the book, it's rather complicated and will need extortionately priced bits.

The problem is that my pin is about half the distance up the tiller that the manual recommends. - about a foot instead of two feet (very roughly - neither manual nor boat are to hand)

What problems am I likely to come up against, bearing in mind that the old one worked fine and the new one is quite a bit more powerful, so leverage is unlikely to be an issue?

Is a "suck it and see" approach likely to have any unforseen consequences?

I think the crucial thing is to get the angle between tillerpilot and tiller a right angle. When TG's tiller broke last year, I cut off the broken bit and pushed the remains into the rudder head to get me to the end of the season. As the fixing point for the tillerpilot remained in the same position but the pin moved 8 inches towards the rudder, the angle wasn't anything like a right angle and advanced paranoia broke out, clearly since when trying to get back on course it was assuming certain angles that no longer existed. The repaired tiller has the pin 1" too close to the rudder so the angle is not exactly a right angle but the thing is coping so far. So I conclude that if you have a right angle the only extra thing that's happening is a need for greater power. How much weather helm do you have is I guess the answer to your question.
