Anyone know a maker of toy boats suitable for young children (4 yrs) - I thought the Playmobil had some good ones but they seem to have discontinued the range. Searching on Hamley's website drew a blank.

Any ideas please (Xmas present planning for god sons)

Thanks

David

Not too sure what you are looking for exactly but Maplin Electronics do some radio control boats, etc http://www.maplin.co.uk/

What exactly are you looking for, and what price range? Have several sites that might be of interest, like Tridias

I've just checked what my eldest's son's toy yacht was and it's a Skipper as suggested by Jimi. It's now some 12 years old (and the standing rigging needs repairing!), but I would recommend them as well, although they might be slightly old for a 4-year old.

Playmobil "pirate ship" is pretty good, (but doesn't go to windward very well, and is prone to taking on water through the gun-ports in any sort of chop). HOWEVER "assembly is required" - something akin to welding together and fitting out your own 30' steel sloop. Ask anyone who has had "the experience". You have been warned.

Their "Noah's ark" is much more primitive (sic).

Looked on eBay??

There's loads of radio-controlled boats on eBay, which would maybe be OK for 4 year olds (they can program VCRs at that age!). I bought a R/C Jet Ski on eBay, to use in the pool - for about 15 quid it was great fun until it got seriously swamped, now awaiting a bit of internal resoldering.
