I am interested in hearing from any berth holders at Town Quay in Southampton about the marina and if there is much surge from the passing shipping and ferries. Would anyone be able to comment on how it would compare to Gosport Marina?

Looking at options for a birthday weekend but need to consider an individual who can't cope with staying on-board when on a berth affected by surging/rocking.

The red jet ferries do chuck in quite a lot of wash. It's more a fore and aft movement rather than the side to side rocking in gosport, but it was quite significant when I stayed there last.

go to ocean village instead, given your guest.

Great central location but you do get some surge from the red jets - also diesel fumes when the wind is in a certain direction. Might not be the best place for someone who is prone to sickness.

Thanks everyone for the replies, looks like a couple of nights in Ocean Village will be on the cards.

If you go for OV, suggest you warn your guests of a possible encounter with ogaryo who might be sporting his blonde wig and lipstick !!........... makes seasickness positively appealing !!!!................... just thought I,d mention it .....

I'm at Gosport Marina and stayed a night at TQS during the boat show. We didn't find the ferries too much of a problem (no worse than Gosport Marina in terms of rocking. My only comment is that the aisles are very narrow (if your not on the visitors pontoon)

Thanks for the reply, a comparison to Gosport is useful as the individual couldn't cope going below when we were berthed there.

Good point, perhaps a birthday weekend on the Kennet and Avon would be a better idea...
