Towing with a van

I used to do a lot of towing and you need to look at your Train Weight. I had a 3500 gross weight van and I towed an Ivor Williams Trailer behind it. Although the trailer was 3500 gross and weighed about a ton empty I could put 100 bales of hay on it (2500 kilos.) so I was towing 3.5 tonn. Then on the inside of the transit I put another 60 bales of hay (1500 kilos) At the time I had a Farm Shop , one of my customers was a Motorway Patrol Officer who when he called in one day and saw my fully loaded Transit and Trailer said that I was overloaded on my train weight, Of course things like this don't usually matter but id you have an accident towing the first thing an Insurance Loss Adjuster will look at is the weight overload and try and reject your claim. If over.
