Dear All,

/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I have recently purchased a 3 metre inflatable boat with a 10hp outboard, for use in the South of France this summer.
Mainly for me and the kids to have some fun with.

My eldest lad wants a "Doughnut" or something towable for the back of the inflatable. My real concern is that extra drag would over-load the transom and cause damage. Has anybody seen one of these towing or tried it?

All feedback/comments /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif welcome.

Thanks,

Mark.

I have a 15 year old zodiac serie 1 and tow hephalumps on kneeboards and wakeboards, im using the rings that are in the transom. Its a bit tricky getting onto the plane as the front tends to lift a fair bit.

Thanks for the posting Steve!

That sounds reassuring, I take it you had no problems with the transom and had loads of fun.
Can I ask, did you connect straight upto the hooks on the transom or put some type of v-line in first?

Mark.

i used a v-type bridle with a small float just on the v to stop the rope going in the prop. Yes it is great fun. the body boards with a knee strap are so much fun even if you just lay on it.

On the basis of 'when in Rome' and all that, and since you'll be in the S. of F., should you not consider swapping the doughnut for an Île flottante? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We currently use a 4m rib as a support boat and it can quite happily tow several dinghies behind it - with people on board - ok, so it has a 25hp and we don't tow that fast - but I would've thought a 3m would be ok with just a doughnut on the back! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Afrogley don't be fooled. the curve of drag versus speed increases dramatically with speed, it is like the passing the hull speed except that the effect is multiplied by the number of hulls being driven. Hulls of course includes doughnuts. A planing board may be much easier to tow once it is planing. have fune olewill
