Re: Replacement membrane?

No he's not saying that, and suggest you delete or edit your post as that is pretty much the type of statement that gets the threads pulled every time

Talbot is pointing out that there is an opportunity (at last) to put the device to a test

Re: Replacement membrane?

I find your defence of Waterlog surprising. If they say "<u>NO</u> maintenance" and "<u>NO</u> cost", isn't that what they mean? Talbot's reply of "ask normal watermaker owners how long their membranes last" doesn't change the facts of the claims which Waterlog make.

As for your suggestion that "you delete or edit your post as that is pretty much the type of statement that gets the threads pulled every time", I'd remind you that these endless Waterlog posts only get pulled whenever they get anywhere near revealing the truth. It's a public forum, an exchange of views, and (last time I checked) we had freedom of speech in this country.

Personally I have always been fascinated by the concept, and believe that a lot of the problems experienced with these are primarily cause the person deploying it failed to read the instruction book.

[/ QUOTE ]I am a very happy and satisfied Spectra customer and I often hear and read in these forums people's (uniformed) opinions about watermakers - pointless in the Med (not true), unreliable (not true), water tastes horrid (not true), output is too low to be useful (not true) so I have a lot of sympathy with anyone discussing watermakers against a backdrop of ill-informed and, frankly, ignorant folklore.

There is no shortage of people out there who do use their Spectras, etc. every day and are delighted. And, as you say, it requires you to read the handbook - just as you need to learn to sail or learn to drive a car, you need to learn how to run a watermaker properly.

What we do have, however, is not just a lack of satisfied Waterlog customers; we are unable to trace a single customer who is prepared to state that the blessed things work at all. A simple black and white statement from a regular member of this forum would mean a lot to me....just "I've used a Waterlog for xx hours and it made yy litres". But we can't seem to find a single user. Not one.

Re: Replacement membrane?

Fair comment and it's not my place to police the issue, but I fear yet another thread will be pulled. I'd like to see it keep going until the forum have had a chance to carry out the test and report conclusively

I had a thought about this last night....being a novel and undemonstrated piece of kit, I reckon that Southampton would lend their testing tank (or a corner of it) to carry out some basic tests. There might be a fresh/salt water issue (though it doesn't matter much with Spectra). You would manage a much better test under lab conditions than motoring around in circles.

If you read the other thread,

[/ QUOTE ] etc.

I had read the other thread

The fact that there may be some sort of test by a user this coming season is all very well but it doesn't answer the puzzle as to why this bit of kit is the subject of so much debate and so little hard fact.

If it's as good as its' claimed to be, it's the bees knees. If that's the case, and it really has sold in anything like the quantities claimed, why aren't dozens, if not hundreds, of people popping up saying "got one, it's great".

As yet, as far as I'm aware, nobody has said that about the towed jobby.

No axe to grind, ain't got one, ain't likely to want one, ain't even got a boat to tow one with yet! Just puzzled /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
