That could certainly be considered to be a valid point, but strangely, the only time we had a rat aboard, on two successive nights, or it could have been two different rats we were berthed on a shore line at Meganisi. Last year our cruise took us to many ports where we berthed alongside, quite unusually for Greece, and we were not troubled by them.

Alongside on the pontoon at Poros is good since a whole "Herd" of cats gathers at the root of the pontoon. Local Authorities though try to discourage alongside there in high season.

We have seen more rats at Meganisi than anywhere else. Other than the two we had on board we have watched them scurrying along the shore line when we were anchored. We were told that when the island became overrun with cats the authorities decided to take action and slaughtered hundreds of them. In consequence the rat population exploded. Cats are now more encouraged!
