One job I'd like to do next winter is touching up some of the green paint on Tigger's VP. Any tips on how to best do this? We are talking small parts where there is s bit of corrosion

no, not a lot to do. But what sort of prep, should I use any primer? spray or brush? How to degrease properly?

I scraped, sanded, prime then painted.

Didn't stop the rust though but the engine had spent a few years under a rotten cockpit floor so same as outside.

Nothing was going to save mine. It's now redone in red and called a beta 14.

If its a small patch you might want to run it down. Hammerite then over paint in Volvo green.

First essential is to de-grease thoroughly. Paraffin followed by white spirit or the solvent/thinner for the paint you intend to apply.

If you have access to a steam cleaner a soak with an emulsifying engine cleaner followed by steam cleaning will make a good job of it.

next essential if your new paint job is to last is get rid of all the rust. Chip, scrape and wire brush followed by a chemical rust remover. Repeat until rust free.

I did one side of a rusty old MD11c as above followed by several coats of Hammerite. Just the green as it came from the can but you can mix the colours to get a better match to the VP green if you must.

I have just painted an MD7 with Frosts Buick Green. As far as I can see it is a perfect match and brushes well. I primed alloy bits with Hammerite special metal primer & it went well over that. Hammerite thinners or cellulose thinners were ok for cleaning up, or you can use a cheap brush & throw it away!

Cheers!
