So faced with a rubbish forecast over the weekend and a desire to get out of Dartmouth before the weekend tourists arrived we decided to go up the Dart. What a great river to explore as once past Dittisham the twisting river narrows with steep sided heavily wooded hills.
We stopped on the boat yard floating pontoon which dries out for £15. That compares with £35 for Bixham this year on the events pontoon. The boatyard being a more traditional affair rather than a posh marina. Water and showers available and a very friendly welcome. Drying out wasn't a problem with bilge keels but a 26 Westerly fin also dried out on the opposite bank against the substantial jetty without problems.
Totnes was interesting and made a great change to get away from the tourists.
