After reading about the rather large tax that the probable next UK Government is planning to put on Coffee due to its health effects and following the popularity of my thread about diesel. I think I will only keep tea on the boat from now on. My reasons

1) Coffee is far more expensive than tea
2) Coffee is quite dangerous on a boat
3) Tea is available in most marina shops but coffee not so
4) Tea makers are more reliable than coffee machines and lighter
5) Coffee makes you want the loo more than tea which is not good on a boat
5) Being a Brit Tea is patriotic as opposed to coffee which is of course a US abomination just like V8 Petrol boats

Any one feel the same

Regards

Dennis

You need to look at other alternatives too IMHO - try Googling 'Beer', 'Wine' or 'G&T'. Beware however that you will need to spend far more time on the boat moored up in order to sleep off the effects. Although more expensive than Tea or Coffee, you won't actually use as much fuel - also Google 'Floating Caravan'... There are lots in Marina's around the uk! ;)

Quite so & instant is more expensive than the "real thing", strange the British generally favour the instant crap

I remember listening to Midweek with Libby Purves on Radio 4 many years back. A group of professional coffee tasters who had been in the business for many, many years were involved in a long discussion on how to make a perfect cup of coffee. Libby finally asked the question, 'So what do you think of instant coffee?' After an extended pause of gum sucking during which they were obviously wondering if they should say what they really felt, one replied, 'I think the best you can say is that it's a warm, brown drink.'

Piers - you need to get out more!

It makes a change for the government to tax something I don't consume in large quantity.
I guess there are fewer people smoking so they have to think of something new to tax.

Get out more??? Hope to leave on Tues to refuel at St Sampsons and berth in St PP overnight on an outside pontoon for a 2.30am departure on Weds direct to Camaret. Weather looks perfect for this. Will stay in touch and always monitor ch77.

We also hope to get under way on Wednesday - first stop Vigo. A nice 75 mile trip to start the season. Ocean Spirit now has a Class C Transponder so you can track us if you will. Have a safe passage.
