Hi
I recently purchased my first boat (total NEWBIE) - advertised as a Shetland Boat - but I can't find anything on the boat to identify the model. The windows seem distinctly different from any pictures I have seen on the Shetland Past Models webpage. http://www.shetlandboats.co.uk/range/

The previous owner advertised it as a 15ft Shetland 2 berth Motor boat, in good condition, with 60hp Johnson Seahorse (J60ELCSR) long shaft 2 stroke outboard, electric start.

I emailed Shetland and they have replied it is NOT a Shetland boat.

Can anyone help me identify it?

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

Hello Mr Newb!
I can't identify the vessel but it looks kinda like my first boat, which was a long time ago.
I never new what She was all I knew She was 'Built' in the Liverpool area.
The only time I needed a 'Make' was for insurance purposes so I said 'we thinks an --- maybe -- or a ? , which the Ins Co were happy with
When I said 'Built' I really mean moulded because all the Boat Builder does is mould the hull and buys the other bits in and screws and bolts or moulds in the rest
So whatever kit you are going to need you can source yourself one way or another
The important bit you need to know who made it and when is the engine, which know about.
Make sure the engine is spot on and does what its supposed to
Looks a great boat for a first go
Oh! have you had Her on the water and how does she go if you did!!??
Cheers
K

Pilot 570? 17feet in old money, or maybe a Wilson, several makers used similar moulds in the 70's and a few still do. Ask on www.wsf you will certainly find it. Cannot make out if she has Cathedral hull from the pics.

This a pilot 590, 19feet in old money. Slam a bit in a chop but never felt unsafe with her.

No its not a Microplus nor does it have a Cathedral hull, can't say its a Wilson either Omega2. Rolling loads of Makes in me bonce but nothing is registering
Like you say www.wsf might be the best bet
Unless I remember!!!!!!!!!!!
:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Hi
Thanks everyone for all your ideas on what boat it might be and thanks Kawasaki for the helpful info. I have not had her on the water yet and not sure if I will have time this year (getting late in season esp for a novice)! I am in the process of getting the battery charged to test the outboard (electric start) but the seller said it was quick and a very good runner! I thought I could work on her in prep. for next year.

I had an idea 2 days ago to contact Loch Lomond registration office as I saw it had been on the Loch in the past (Registration Marks stuck on side of boat). They said it was registered on the Loch as a Shetland Freedom. Anyone heard of it? They also said they would pass my email on to the Team Leader of the Water Rangers to identify the Manufacturer but am yet to hear anything back. Will contact Shetland again in a few days if I hear nothing from the Water Rangers.

Thanks again, will do more research on all your suggestions to try to identify it.

Checked out 'new boater' thread seastoke. Although a little similar the hull shape is different so I don't think it's a dejon but thanks for posting anyway.

Thanks for reply Davy_S. The Sealark or maybe the 498 are the closest I've found so far but as I say Shetland say it's not one of theirs. Will contact them again soon. Ta

Just checking Kawasaki and Omega2, when you say try www.wsf, do you mean http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/. ?
When I try www.wsf I get '403 Forbidden'.

Thats the site but you will need to register, it is free, and some of the threads are informative. Give it a try
