Just come from the funeral of Tim Hurst, I didn't realise he had been a sailor as well as TV reporter. Apparently he spent some time in the windies, also sailed in the Solent. There may be some here that knew him. He came to live in our village in 2004, and died recently at the age of 74.

I've just come across this sad news after Googling Tim's name when reminiscing on times past. I knew Tim in the early 70's when he lived in Bursledon (Howards Way territory) and was a BBC tv reporter on the early evening news programme South Today. I'll never forget his live outside broadcast one year from the Southampton Boat Show when a gust of wind ripped all his notes from his hand and blew them away - he still kept going! At that time he was building a ferro cement yacht in his back garden which then required a huge crane to hoist it over the house when completed. After that we lost contact so I've not seen or spoken to him for 40 odd years. Something just brought him to mind which made me type his name into Google. If anyone has knowledge of what he got up to in the last 40 years I'd love to hear from them.

He sailed the ferro boat to the windies, and stayed there for a while. Lately he was retired doing B&B in our village. His wife Moira is still here, should you want to get in touch PM me and i'll pass on any message. She is a trustee and sec of a local charity with me and others.
