Our marina has a bar/restaurant , and plenty of people with dogs.
One evening a few years ago it seemed like there were more dogs than people. Folk were letting their dogs eat treats off the table. Makes me want to puke .

New management deep cleaned the whole place and removed several dogs worth of hair . Now dogs are banned.

I don't dislike dogs but some of their owners do have some dirty habits.
Most dog owners , however, are respectful of non dog owners wishes.

Why did you let the dog lick your b;;;;?

Never walk around a dog, let know who is top dog & kick it out of the way

I hope that's said in some sort of jest.

Being the owner of 3 large dogs, a restaurant is not the place for them. That said, we have had many meals in pub gardens etc with the boys calmly tucked up by our feet. All in the training. I agree it is my responsibility to control my dogs and not impact on non dog owners in all situations. Not sure I have any dirty habits though :p

Most dogs are better behaved than the screaming brats you see running around and climbing all over the furniture.

Very true....I tried to train my brat but she just doesn't respond to a pedigree chew. I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong and social services seem unimpressed :)

As owners of 2 dogs we choose to eat and drink in dog friendly pubs, if you are not fond of dogs in pubs then I suggest you do likewise!

we have a dog the dog was not really the problem it was the owner of the bar filling the dog bowls on, where human food is passed over from kitchen

There are of course some establishments, such as your local country pub where hounds are part of the furniture along with a nice log fire. Enjoy both the company of the both the dogs and owners.
Owners of country dogs do appear to regard their muts in somewhat different light from most urban folks........no ambiguity about who is in charge .
Am rather surprised that this event occurred in a Spanish bar as they do not tend to treat their animals in the ever so slightly nauseating sentimental way that we do.:)
Would not amazed to learn the bar was run by a British or German owner. ?

english peeps

english peeps

That explains it Larger louts
Probably pissed whilst feedin their dogs
Anyway
English peeps runnin a Spanish bar, the food was probably only fit fer Dogs
I only used to let our Welsh Sheep dog onto the table in the Marina to finish off the scraps me swmbo couldn't manage
Or I could not manage (quite a rare occasion) but quite a handy scenario when 'doggy bags' weren't deriguer!
;)

I take my dogs into pubs and restaurants that permit dogs, they are also permitted in my own kitchen (where I prepare their food as well as mine) and my own dining room - I wonder where the OP prepares the food for his own dog?

I would be more concerned about the hygiene habits of the chef and waiting staff in a restaurant.

To describe finding dogs in a restaurant as a "worst nightmare" is somewhat of an extreme exaggeration. I am sure there are far worse things.

Not dogs in Bars but Cats in Spain or anywhere, especially in a Greek Taverna place some years ago the bastids were everywhere and the owners and the Daft Tourists were juckin the felines scraps and the thing were 'minging'
Plus when yer terwated them off of yer table the bastids came back fer more
So I gave one an anchovie of dubious sell by date infused in to a red pepper , inc seeds.
That fecker didn't come back to My Mousaki or try to sniff me Ouso!
