What a bizarre and sweeping statement.

A forty foot canal barge wouldn't be suitable on the sea, but people have crossed the Atlantic in 20 footers.

As far as the boats we're talking about here go, a 20ft cuddy cabin speedboat is absolutely fine on the sea, albeit more consideration must be paid to the weather than may be so in a larger boat.

Think that's what I said. Why do folk want to get so pedantic.

We are berthed at Torquay and in terms of your question - I agree you probably were not doing much wrong. Some conditions that you can still go out in will give you a good soaking what ever you do. Also, agree that 20ft if fine on the Sea when conditions suit. I would echo what Enterprise says, lot of good points there. As you go out more and more and start to look at weather and what it does in the bay, you will start to know the sort of weather to expect when you see the forecasts. But looking out when you get there is also a very good idea. See who else is out there and how its treating them. Also, its worth remembering that Torq Harb entrance can indeed collect swell and chop when across the bay seem fine. More than once we have had to power up a bit to stay in a straight line when entering.
