Torquay Advice

It seems likely that the T40 will indeed be brought back to Torquay.
Can anyone comment on the liklihood of a calm night on berths B16 - 24 ?
They seem very close to the harbour entrance, which is fine for access, but perhaps they suffer from swell and/or choppiness caused by trip boats etc.
Would it be better to be on C/D pontoons for a stable and peaceful time?

We spent 4 nights there with an easterly swell creaping around the corner , ( on the outside of B pontoon ) not uncomfortable , just a bit of rope squeaking . I would imagine anything with no easterly in it would be perfect .

Although I've always lived here, I've never had a boat on the marina let alone that section so kept quiet - like most I suspect. We're not really that hostile down here, just that your question was very specific.

Torquay Harbour is generally very sheltered, so I wouldn't think you'll have much problem. A strong ESE would be my only worry and a) they're few and b) Beacon Quay will protect you from most of it.

With regards wash/wake from pleasure boats, I've been on many of these over the years and they seem generally very considerate. The odd private vessel might be less so, but HM has a good view of Harbour and I doubt misses much!

I did not respond because I've not been there for a bit and anyway, we normally stopped on the HM pontoon, which is closer to town and mainly free, if you can leg it fast enough.

Anyway they were doing some work round there, last time I looked. Errm hope this helps.

They have recently reinforced the outer side of Beacon Quay with a good few tonnes of rock, extending the parts of the wall protected. Over recent years, much of the harbourside has been improved and they're now talking about pontoons with another 200 berths in the inner harbour. Not sure how appealing this will be to most, as the tidal cill limits access.

There's no work that I know of planned over the summer, but talk of development of some of the gardens/bandstand area for a hotel and extension of the theatre to facilitate larger West End shows...

Sorry to be behind the replies, but I was off yesterday.

I berth on F, which is some way from B, but the whole marina is very calm and sheltered, and even the pleasure boats are well behaved in the harbour, so I do not think you will have any wave problem unless there is a really strong SE or ESE.

You might get some rope noise as the boat itself moves in the breeze.

B is a little further from the Torquay night life, but the sound probably travels quite well. As we live close by, we have not overnighted on the boat yet.

Friend has decided that he'll try a berth on B and see how he gets on.
Personally I think that it should be easier for access and a closer walk to the facilities, than the other berths he was offered, so it will be worth a bit of occasional disturbance.
