Torqeedo purchase ?

The prop will inevitably be lower in the water than a petrol outboard because of the larger diameter prop so care in shallow water.

Amen to that. We're on our second prop after under-estimating the extra leg length. ePropulsion do a shorter version.

Maybe someone can explain why the control head is so high up ? Is it so you can use on any height transom .. that they have adjustable depth ?
On trolling motors? Because, I think, they are mainly intended to propel quite large boats very slowly, so they are normally fitted to high transoms alongside 40+ hp outboards.

Also commonly on the flat foredecks of fishing punts. One of there selling points is flexibility of mounting at different heights in different locations other than on a transom. Main market is not dinghies with 15" transoms!

World away from a loaded Recrest fighting its way to an upriver mooring against the tide.

Quite - - - in fairness to my 3.3 Mariner which I bought new many moons ago it has coped well in getting the laden Redstart up river against some quite strong tides - - hence part of my original question about either of the Torqeedo's ability to do the same.

Whilst the Epropulsion has some good qualities I'm not so keen. I prefer the ability to break the Torqeedo down into three pieces for easier storage. Plus when leaving it ashore or tied up somewhere the handle with the electronics can be taken off so making it a bit less nickable. I think the Torqeedo looks big but the Eprop with it's larger battery housing on a small tender would - IMO dominate. Emotionally I also like that the Torqeedo is made in Germany.

So it seems to be the T1103 has the power to replace the little Mariner but that it would probably be better on a hard transom rather than the round tail Redstart.

The bugger of that being I really really like the Avon Redstart on the boat - it's lightweight, folds up smaller and is retrieved over the side deck very easily, I can even carry it singlehanded up a beach - - - Ho Hum.

I will continue to cogitate - if you can swing me either way please tell !

Sell the Redstart on eBay - you'll get more than it's worth. Buy a proper inflatable (think Zodiac, Honwave, etc). Then get a Torqeedo.

I know you asked about Torqueedo but I must give a thumbs up to Epropulsion. I recently got a long shaft version Evo for my Drascombe LBC and it does a nice job. I tried it on my Wayfarer this week and it pushes that along very well. I got the remote throttle because the mizzen mast gets in the way of the outboard tiller on the Drascombe.
I also like the option of taking the battery off and using an extension cable, just need to find a dealer who has them in stock.
