Torch battery polarity

I have just bought a SkyRay Cree XML T6 8400Lm Compact LED Flashlight and four 18650 li-on batteries for it. The batteries have their polarity marked on them but there is no indication on the torch as to which way up they go. The bottom of the battery holder has four springs which suggest all four negatives go at that end. The torch itself has concentric contact rings but no markings and there is no FM so I cannot RTFM. If I get it wrong will the Li-ons burst into flame? Advice please from anybody who has such a torch.
 
I bought a Nitecore torch with the same LED and Batteries. This instructions showed the batteries round the wrong way, so the it didn't come on the first time I tried to use it. Then found out the cradle was made such that if the batteries are round the wrong way they can't complete the circuit. I assume they did this because you'll damage something if they are the wrong way round.

Normally the negative end goes against the spring, did it not come with a manual?

I have a similar SkyRay torch. The 4 batteries all go into the body the same way up - positive at the top. Mine has 4 little + symbols inside the circular contact strip.

Edit: PS, I didn't get a FM either...

a similar UltraFire torch. The springy end in the battery carrier is the +ve, and the button end is -ve.
 
Thanks. It's negatives to the springs. The give away was the contact ring at the top - all four batts touched the same ring so must all be the same ends. A powerful little hand torch but no lightweight. Actually thinking about Sarabande's reply it does not matter provided they are all the same way up.

I think you'll find it will only work if the positives are up, ie negatives to the springs inside the bottom of the body.

They are great little torches and satisfyingly chunky.
