Topsides respray advice on final sanding

Update
Went to the boat today. The paint has "tightened up" as predicted by a couple of posters here. Thanks guys. They have sanded "if thats the right word" a test patch with 1200. I put a piece on my hand and how you can call it sandpaper I don't know. It felt like silk! Well the good news is that it looks perfect. Just like a new gelcoat. I gave them some G3 (on offer at Halfords 3 for 2) and they used it on the test patch with the G3 Renovator and then the G3 resin super-wax. Hey presto it is smooth gleaming and I am happy. Pleasantly they will do all the work (estimated at 3 full days) including G3 application within the original quote. And no it did not cost an arm and a leg. PBO forum does it again!

I have had to spray several boats in my many years around them, the trick is to remember that the prep is 90% of the finished product.

I also only use long chain polymer self levelling polyurethane based paints.

And, I never do the finish coats myself, I reserve this for a pro and not ever had to rub down anything, not even a minor run or sag.

Good luck. :)
