topsides paint

I need to touch up some topsides paintwork. Boat probably originally painted with 2-part polyurethane with various touch up jobs over the years with monourethane.

We are currently in Trinidad. Available locally are Jotun one-component acrylic or alkyd, or PPG enamel-urethane.

Can anyone give me some advice on which would be best to go for please.

If you are just touching up go with the jotun as it should not react.For a full re paint flat prep the hull then spray with a ty-coat then paint with whichever you prefer (if you want to check your existing paint type rub with a rag soaked in thinners any single pack will come off)

Two pack polyurethane car paint made by Automotive Art is very popular for painting boats with in Barbados, and it produces a very nice and hard wearing finish - here is a spec sheet about it :

They have slow, medium and fast hardeners - even the slow goes off very fast indeed in these temperatures, and the paint dries very quickly - if painting by brush it is difficult to keep a wet edge going.

Thanks for your help. I have done some further reading and have decided to go with a urethane paint as it is more durable than acrylic - the areas needing touching up are vulnerable.
