Topsham immobile Centaur

I am told there is an immobile Centaur in the Retreat Yard in Topsham with a for sale sign on the back end

If I can find out more is anyone local enough to have a butchers for me?

D

I pass by there most days, happy to look, but bear in mind I'm no sailor! I do have a moisture meter in my car if you'd like me to have a quick check of the hull. Send me a PM if interested.

that would be great - n o need to check the moisture but just a few snaps of the outside, the keel join, anything you can get through the windows and a note of the number on the bit of paper would be great

has anyone else on here noticed the boat

I did call the yard this afternoon and left my number on what I hoped was an answering machine...

Also pass daily although at this time of year it tends to be dark when I'm passing but the offer's there if needed. Could also stop by over the weekend.

It's about time I had a run out down there, so if you haven't got something fixed, I'd be happy to have a walk round it and kick the tyres.

Dylan,

Very unuaual for no answer to a telephone enquiry at Retreat. The chandlery is manned by Chris from 9am to 5pm Sometimes Verity answers the phone if Chris is busy. I am not aware of an answering machine. I suggest you try again in the morning. Did you get their phone number correct - 01392 874720 or check their website and email address. There are photos of the centaur on their website.

I know the yard well I have my boat there and have done for 20 years but will not be visiting in the near future so cannot take any photos but the boat is in reasonable condition and have passed it many times recently. Mine is wintering nearby

I think it's worth a visit.

that is not the one apparently....

the one I was told about is much worse and just has a stick-on notice on the back put on it by the owner

it has a dead engine and is rather green

the sort of boat I am after is not the sort most brokers are prepared to touch

of course it might just be another dead trail

the good thing about Centaurs is that they are like buses - another will be along in a minute

Dylan,

It may be tucked away in the corner of the yard somewhere out of general view if not listed.

It is still worth a phone call as Chris is sure to know about it and could give you more info.

I will try again in the morning - I phoned late this afternoon - no answering machine message - just a clunk so I might have been leaving messages for no-one at all. But then I talk to myself all the time

Darn, as I am currently in Retreat!

There was a "manky old boat" in the corner of the yard last winter, I wonder if that was it.

Dylan, what's your budget, if you give me some idea I'll keep my eyes open on my travels and spread the word locally.

1.5 K for skip fodder

2.5K for a brilliant one with nothing wrong with it other than the jiggered engine

ideally I am after one with a spade rudder and the A layout (six berths)

- my son's girlfriend now says she wants to come for a couple of weeks as well- and she has a six month old cockerpoo

aaaaaagh!

that will prove what sort of person she is if she can tolerate five up and two dogs on a Centaur

she does live on a small canal boat though so she knows a bit about tight living

We've had 6 (inc 2 teenagers) and a Jack Russell in the Pentland for a fortnight. OK, it is a bigger boat, but all the adults were really helpful and the teenagers were not too troublesome if left to their own devices as far as possible. The dog was happy with walks ashore every morning & evening.
