toppinglift/lazy jack rope

yesterday I thought I had invented something new

and I thought this is never going to work otherwise everyone else would be doing it

duH!

I myself cannot see how the system in the drawing is ever going to work - the fristcion seemed massive

now this crutch thing

do I need to make one?

D

No we just find it convienient . its just two 4 foot lengths of 1 1/2 square mahogny u bolted on to the pushpit. they have a cross piece bolted a couple of inches from the top of them . When the mast is dropped it rests on it, along with the gaff and boom. Years ago had one that was removable but was easier to just fix it. Gained a futher use as a solid frame for a boom tent .

The 2 toppers go to 2 cheek blocks on each side of the mast fixed a few inches over the highest point that the gaff jaws are hauled up to . In an emergency one could be used as a throat halyard.
