Top tip for diesel bleeding

hum, i just fill the new filters/chambers full with fuel (or fuel/injector treatment) and then no need to bleed anything - just start the motors.

You waana try that with my filters!

You have to twist them sideways to steer them through the cables, hoses etc that fill the six inch gap between the motor and bulkhead.

Fitting Elec Pump

Our cruising grounds are around the Asian region. Needs quite a few filter changes due to contamination of the diesel for various reasons.
I modified the fuel system on our Aphrodite 42 that has a Volvo Penta MD31 engine. Also did not want fuel everywhere when I bled the system.
Now have a layout that is easy and clean as well as failsafe (as can be)
Layout from the fuel tank. Glass bowl sediment and water trap. Walbro 7psi elec pump. Duplex CAV filters. Engine lift pump. Secondary Filter. Removed the bleed screw from the secondary filter and piped it back to the fuel tank via a stop cock.
When bleeding switch on the elec fuel pump via a 2 way switch and open the bleed stop cock to circulate the fuel back to the tank.
When operating normally the 2 way switch energises the elec fuel pump from the ign switch.
In effect the mechanical transfer pump is in the idle position as the system pressure is slightly above the lift pump pressure of 4psi.
Also great when the engine has not been started for some time or after a filter change to give it a pressure bleed to ensure no air is left in the lines or filter.
