... were evidently used 60 years ago. Following surveyor's recommendations to 'remove a sample of fastenings for inspection' the shipwright managed to get the first one of the sample out today and observed that it looked as if it had only been put in yesterday. If they are all like that I will be very pleased.
 
I agree they used good materials then. My boat was built in 1946 and the mahogany used on the wheelhouse is remarkably good...the only thing I've found is the glues they had then were poor by todays standards.
 
Isn't copper a base metal. Therefore copper is copper?
The quality of you nails is probably due to the quality of the wood they are in, the way they were driven (nice and tight), and the excellent care and painting of your bot since it was built!
