i bought a new boat mid 2004. recently a problem has been identified with the boat that needs repair under warranty.

my boat is in a marina about 10 miles from the sales agents office.

the dealer wants me to pay him 170 euros to come to the marina to do the repair under warranty ( travel time)
this seems excessive to me, what you guys think?

he says if i bring the boat to him it would be done free, but it involves a 3hr sail and a bridge lift to get the boat over, which is a lot of hassle.

I would object to paying someone to do a repair under warranty, but I realise that in the real world you do sometimes get ripped off. If it would cost you more to take the boat to him than to pay him to visit the boat, then that will most likely be what you will end up doing regardless of how long you argue about it. After all, if it was a car you would be expected to take it to a dealer's garage.
Best make sure he doesn't try and bill you for a second lot of travel time if it takes longer than one day to fix.
Does the small print in your warranty specify that the boat has to be taken to the dealer, or is it unhelpfully silent on that point? And would your insurer help? I know some policies offer help on "uninsured losses", though usually in the case of a claim

What makes you think he can repair it in one visit - that the diagnosis is correct, and that he will bring the right parts and tools. Better to take the boat to the place where he can realy fix it?

Sorry to hear about your 211. If you were in the UK and could not get satisfaction I would say proceed against the supplier not Beneteau. Maybe it's different in Eire.
Having just bought a S/H 2004 211 I am very concerned about your problem, if I remember your last post rightly the boat was coming apart at the stern. Please keep us up-dated on what happens.

Tell him to claim the travel time from the manufacturer... that's who issued the warranty, not you.
If you won't pay and he won't travel, the work won't be done and whoever issued the warranty is in breach of its conditions and becomes liable.

They could expect all they liked from my perspective...... if I had a nearly new car, and it needed work under warranty, they would darned well come and collect it...... and I would probably also ask for a loan car while they did the work...... interesting comparison with boat dealers eh.....

I think a degree of reasonability is needed - 10 miles down the road for an engineer to travel is nothing - so he will end up doing 20 miles round trip (if he gets it in one hit) = 170euros? so 8.5 euros a mile?! or .. put it time wise - 20 miles ~ 1hr15 = 136euros/hr!!! hmm ... Don't think so ... If you'd pranged it and wanted them to fix it, then well - its still steep ... Now, if you were 100 miles away then I could (nearly) understand it...

Do you have the equivalent of trading standards over there? I find them most helpful - just mentioning it to the trader is enough to sway most of them....

Anyway - what is the Warranty repair that requires doing?
