Interesting news item this morning. Apparantly, so it is claimed, someone has done a survey and found that 70% of flipflops/thongs/jandels (as according to wot they are called in ones own country) washed up on beaches are left foot ones.

The theory is that when peeps go to getaboard a boat at the beach most put their right foot on the boat first (most being right footed). Then, the left foot is lifted and - well, you know the rest /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Any other ideas?

Rubbish. Hardly any of the owners of flipflops are owners of boats - boatowners are a tiny fraction of the population on a beach.

Much more likely it is because of the twisting on the left foot when a (normally) rightfooted person plays football which causes them to leave the left one behind. Or of course, the right ones have a hole innem and sink.

I don't think so, no - the thread (and my post) were/are primarily about flotsam and jetsam ( specifically flip-flops and sandals) and NOT about football. So, if the thread had started off with a comment about (say) watching the football, which was a bit boring and then he'd changed over to another satellite channel and discovered this info about the flipflops, that would be more football-centric, and hence more correctly on the Terraces forum.

I think we may have found a problem with the Terraces forum here. Any footie fans dismayed at the lack of people to exchange views with on the Terraces will start a thread about rubbish on another forum and then drift it into a football chat.
Perhaps if we want a non-sporting discussion we should move over to the Terraces where there seems to be lots of space. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hm. ok, but it seems that you're saying that posts can't even *mention* the world cup football tournament? Is that right. Cos that's like banning smoking - and then also banning even mentioning smoking or anything related to it - and not even being allowed to mention that smoking is banned because you'd have to say the word "smoking". And also banning sideways reference to smoking such as not needing matches and the air smelling fresher since the ban.

Anyway, your own name is quite footbally, what with FIFA being in Geneva and hence Lakesailor being someone who hangs around within sight of their HQ on a sailing boat. So I think you have scored something of an own goal, except a real own goal and not like the slight deflection as in the England-Paraguay match where it was going in anyway.

That might be it - lefties always put foot in mouth when talking and probably natural that it would be the left foot. So left flip flip off, foot in mouth for a chat with another leftie friend, finish foot in mouthing, walk off down the beach dreaming of Bliar (or in our case Clark) pair of them leaving an unmatching pair of left flip flops behind.

Probably account too for the fact that they are all cheap red rubber ones with cracked straps.
