Im going sailing ..... in one of those boats with flappy things on it.

One question though, why do they have a washing line around them instead of handrails ?

For hanging their washing on of course!

Raggies don't have room downstairs for a washer and dryer anyway. . . /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Good luck and mind your head - in my experience as soon as a raggie gets above 3 knots he then randomly changes course and the big sticks the flappy things are fixed to thrash about directly in line with your head. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Don't forget to tut and raise your eyes at every motor boat within sight, even those you can only hear.

It is also important to slag off every mobo type that uses the radio, the radio is not a telephone you know. Say this a few times and you will get instant respect from those on board.

Oh, and when a mobo screams past, remember to say out loud, yes but we are getting where we want to go for free without burning fossil fuels. We are doing this because we enjoy being on the water.

Then you can say you are a raggie.

Hope you have fun and can realise the relaxation of sailing and dare I say it, the extra skill as you battle with the elements to nearly get where you are going without turning on the iron topsail.

All tongue in cheek /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Most important

Travel light! That's the way to gain respect.

Hence flappy-boats have washing lines instead of proper ss-rails. It's all about weight, you don't want to drag around too much of it. Although the biggies sure have plenty of room for washing machine, microwaves, cinema entertainment centres, playstation consoles and such, a true raggie doesn't want them cause of the weight!

So, 1 pair of shoes, set of summerclothes and an additional sweater is acceptable for a seven days trip (beside the oilies). A six-pack, bottle of Scotch, Gin are not considered weight but essentials.

Enjoy your day on a proper boat!

Ps: oh, in addition to the other remarks, mumble (at least 3 times a day) "those sails need a bit of trimming..."
