cheeky! As we prepare to cast off for our hols on Wednesday morning, thought I'd just clarify an issue re col regs. Am i right in thinking that as a girl at the helm all male helms as a gesture of courtesy would naturally give way to me ?

As a newbie around here you are forgiven for not realising that the official status of a non-male helmsman was long ago declared by no lesser sage than Jimi as that of 'harridan'.
Therefore, should you depart from the non-harridan roles available to you when afloat (cooking, cleaning, comforting and various other tasks beginning with the letter c – such as complimenting the captain) you are likely to be screamed at, or shunned, by every horny handled male over the rank of incompetent crew.
Sorry to break such bad news, but it is important you should know these things and not realise them later, with keen disappointment
PS make sure there is an adequate supply of his favourite booze and baccy aboard, there's a good girl.
