Right, sorry about this chaps(eses), but continuing my search for an affordable 'walk aboard' home for Alex, the Missus and I visited the Saltings today. Lovely place with a vague piraty feel to it. Fits the bill in many ways but thought I would consult the collected wisdom here. Anyone live there? What's it like?

Pretty restricted to top of the tide but that's obvious and no different from where you are now - well actually you might find more access depending where you go. It is rather nice and once the tide is up you can short cut out of the South Channel rather than go into Mersea Quarters.

It is a gorgeous place. Restricted by tide, yes ... dodgy planking in places and all unlit (as of a good few yrs back), yes ...... quirky, yes ....... flooding walkways at HW, yes ....... but lovely .........

There are toilets and showers there at the yard which are kept in a pretty reasonable state at all times.

Doug who manages the yard is really helpful.

Craning is relatively inexpensive.

Did I mention earlier that I cant see any reason to move? :D
