My Raritan toilet pump has a crack in the plastic pump housing. I plan on replacing the toilet in the next month or so but I need to get it fixed to use this weekend.
Will epoxy work as a temporary repair or should I try some sort of repair putty?

Thanks!

Unless you already have epoxy use Araldite and a bit of roving over the crack.Abrade first for good adhesion. If you don't have rovings use a bit of cotton duck or similar.

Thanks for the advice. I have a tube of araldite style epoxy so I'll try that with some fibreglass tape or similar.

Most epoxies don't work well on injection-moulded plastics, although it may affect a strictly temporary repair. If used, I'd add some sort of mechanical fixing as well.
It's quite likely that there is an adhesive suitable for the fractured part, if only the manufacturer told you what it was made of. Now I wonder why they don't...

Devcon make several 'plastic weld' products which have good reputations, but often you're stuck with not knowing what you're glueing.

Hi

Not much will adhear to injection moulding plastics and you need to contain the pressure in the pump body ( unless you plan to swab out the loo after every use)

Try wraping the "tin" from a bake bean can that has a sealant liberally spread over it around the pump and fasten it on with several jubilee clips.

Good luck

It really depends on the type of plastic.I've sucessfuly repaired a toilet pump with epoxy and glass that lasted for years on a friend's boat.
I've also repaired in this way and with very good results the handle of my steel cutting machine and the rear light housing on my BMW bike.
