Traded in my 5hp yamaha for one of these only trouble is the wooden floor of my 2.8 avon feels like its being shaken to bits
So great exscuse to get a rib with the grp bottom should give more control at the breakneck speed of the engine
But what rib choices so far Vaillant 300,zodiac zoom 3m
Bombard 3m or avon What would you choose and why ???
Will I be able to get my kids going fast enough on one of those inflatable tube thingys

We have just traded up to a Yamaha 8hp 2 stroke & a Valiant 2.7m rib, very pleased with both it even gets me & SHMBO up on the plane!!
By choice we would have gone for the Avon, hypalon, built to last etc.. But we were restricted to what would fit in our tender garage as the tubes on the Valiant as smaller then the Avon. We plan to use money we saved in buying the Valiant and make donations to the red diesel fund

I've got same engine on a Suzumar 270 rib. I reckon I get about 20 knots one up, will still plane with two fully grown adults and I once got eight in the tender, when I had to ferry some stranded french sea scouts in Guernsey. Cost about £850.

Only downside is that it is a bit heavy, however only the folding ribs are likely to be lighter.

An Avon 3.1m Lite and Tohatsu 9.8 came with the Princess. Its been great fun. The kids love it although we havent yet tried pulling them along. And we get five of us in the Avon comfortably. Although it was the previous owners choice I would probably have gone for the Avon anyway.

Sounds good! My 10hp Mariner arrived today but i wasnt in so i'll have to pick it up. Bought with my new quicksilver 270ad as a package bit heavier but im not complaining as i got a fairly good deal on it.

Was that from MarinNautic?

I ordered a Quicksilver 240 at SIBS. Rang them today to ask them where it is, as I have had the invoice since last week. Still waiting for Mike Betts to call me back as I want to make sure I am in to sign for it.

If you choose a double-hulled rib - such as the zodiac - you will be in a position to:
- Install a Jockey seat
- Install a steering column
- Reinforce the transom to accept a 25hp engine for skiing

The Valiant is a single-hulled rib (I own one) and the above options are simply not possible.

However, single-hulled ribs are lighter (naturally).
If you don't mind their limitations, or prefer the lower weight, look at the Suzumar 310 rib. It is very well built and very reasonably priced.

Finally, Hypalon is fairly expensive and it mainly offers UV resistance so that your tender doesnt look like s**t after a couple of years. However, you can consider having the tender covered when not in use (if your boat does not have a garage) to protect it, without spashing out for Hypalon.

We nearly bought one at Excel earlier this year but went for a good deal on a Mercury instead. You might be interested to know that, according to the guy selling the Tohatsu, you can easliy uprate it to a 15hp /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif (something to do with limiters on the throttle - he assured me this wouldn't harm the engine and is a fairly common upgrade - he even suggested it as a cheaper/better route than buying the 15hp from him)

Mine was form R.I.B.S Marine @ SIBS bought the show boat on the last sunday so quite quick arrival for the engine (which they tried to deliver again today- i told them thurs morning is the only time possible)

What are you on about. Iwas merely answering a question from someone on the other page. No need for the sarcasm!

Your thread had all but dried up anyway so whats the problem?

I think you missed that Sami was responding to greg2, not you. So he was asking about the 9.9->15 upgrade.

Sami: I believe that many 9.9hp units are the same mechanicals as their 15hp bigger brother. Often messing with the throttle, or carb jets can get you a 15hp unit from a 9.9. Alledgedly /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yep, as rickp says the sales guy said the engine is essentially the same just some change in parts on the fuel delivery side and hey presto ... 15hp /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Oh yes indeed. Was just trying to clarify following Sami's question, but perhaps not fully enough /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
