I have a fairly new (2022) Tohatsu 8 hp electric start twin cylinder. Went to the boat yesterday and couldn’t get it to run for more than a very brief burst with the “warm-up” throttle. I reckon all of the petrol in the tank is about a year old, and is certainly E10 (ethanol stuff). Does anybody think that it is a degraded fuel issue? The engine has run no more than about 20 hours in total so far, so I’m hoping it’s nothing to do with the hardware. I have brought the tank home and discarded the old fuel. Is there an additive that will help?

Clean carb. Use old fuel in someone’s car. Buy E5 fuel, add fuel stabiliser (Halfords or garden centre): relax. Italian tune up optional.

Update. New fuel (E5) put in tank. Engine starts and runs on warm-up throttle, but only at relatively high revs. Left it going for a few minutes, but immediately cuts out as throttle returns to idle speed. Will not restart at idle. So, I’m guessing idle jet problem? Time to look at how to remove the carb for a clean out. Thanks to all for the advice.
