Recently "tried" the above job by the handbook, which says "remove drain plug, then remove level plug"..."refill through drain plug unitl it comes out level plug, insert level plug, insert drain plug"

Finished up with SAE90 all over the place, and hopefully enough in the gearbox. Does anybody have a method to do this that works, as SAE90 oil container tubes are too big for the drain plug hole, using the level plug means the oil comes straight out agian.....

Faced with the same situation, I bought outboard gear oil, which is packaged in a dispenser with a nozzle that is sized to fit the outboard drain hole. I considered using SAE90, but am undecided if this may be a false economy, in a new engine. Whatever I decide to do at the next oil change, I now have a nozzle that fits the outboard.

Manufacturer's recommended procedure works fine if you use the Quicksilver gear oil package, you need to have an oil container with a nozzle that both fits the drain hole and seals it against leakage when inserted.

I tilt the engine forward and let it turnd on its side when squirting in the oil then swing it upright to check enough is in the box (I also use OB gear oil in the "special" container with the little nozzle that seals)
