Toggles on Yacht Forestay Opinion Required

Do the panel think a fully articulated toggle is required on a yacht forestay both at the top and the bottom or just at the bottom only.

I think bottom only as the top of the rigging screw is free to move inline with the stay.At the bottom a moving part (rigging screw)meets a fixed part (chainplate or U bolt) this is the problem the toggle overcomes.

Bottom on shrouds and backstay, top and bottom on forestay. Forestay is unique in the degree to which it must articulate because the sail loads can come on in any direction.

It doesn't come undone until you want it to, and is slightly stronger. It was developed for climbers and is the method recommended by the British Mountaineering Council

A toggle allows the moving part of a wire rope on a rig to move without stressing the termination. If you look at this image

you can see that the rigging can move fore and aft and side to side on the deck fitting without strainding the termination. Some bottle screws like Sta-lok have this built in, cheaper ones don't.
