Today i got my port bill! How much do you pay p.a Cant be this much?

Mercury on the Hamble... £8174 for 13.2 m. Absolutely unbelievable... Could buy a decent little car for that. They bleed us till we're dry... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif They're all the same. I reckon buy a Marina, its got to be a licence to print money... Trouble is the market rules and demand outstrips supply. However when you look at it, it does seem like there is a cartel made up of MDL, Premier, Universal, and Redyhof something or other... It would be interesting to see what the profit margin on a bunch of poles and pontoons is... What does the local council sqeeze out in rent? How about crown estates too... Oh well, I guess I will pay up again but I am well unimpressed...

My wife and I have just bought a 44' yacht based at Mercury. Part of the deal included the marina berth till march when i guess it will be due for renual. I will not be paying that kind of money to kee her there, I just couldnt afford it.
I cant beleive what people pay down there, we are moving her to Scotland in april / may ish. Where it will cost no more than £1500. Inverness area.

10 metre berth in Ocean Village Southampton for £231 per year. Only catch is you have to buy a house (including berth) for £400,000 but then you could let it for £1200 per month - starts to make sense??!!

ITALY
At Marina di Carrara at the Club Nautico: a 40 footer pays around 2700€/year; 200 boats waiting list, as that is about half the market price.
Catch: you have to be member of the Club, but that is 100 €/year.

Thats very good!I imagin the waiting list dosent move a lot!Ive been on a waiting list since 1889 for a larger place in my home port!!!

Ive just been looking at port prices in Sweden and i found the price in Bullando was 2000SEK for a FB but as thats only 160 euros?? it cant be right!!!Im off to look at their site then to a currency converter!!Other wise with globle warming ill live up there!!!For that price id put up with a long winter and a bit of rain!!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Bullando marine costs £591.30 for 8mx 2.75 per year which i still cant believe although its on their web site!!!(8700SEK)(875.70 Euros)

Let the berth or the house for £1200?

Re: Today i got my port bill! How much do you pay p.a Cant be this muc

Don't forget Trouville that you are probably paying less for your marina mooring than most of the rest of us pay in council tax!!

I reckon that most livaboards get a pretty good deal for their mooring fees. (But good luck to you!)

Nick

Sorry, my posting wasn't clear. You are not allowed to let the berths there.
If you can raise the money on a buy-to-let mortgage then effectively you would get a free berth for your boat and an income of £14,000 per annum + property appreciation. Even if there is a bit of a slump in the mainstream property market I don't think OV would be affected so much as they don't build houses with berths anymore. Also such properties are bought by people wealthy enough to be not so much affected by economic turndowns.

Suggest we all get together and form a company. Now that's a lot of buying power but we would all need to be of the same ind in the same place

Plymouth Cattewater trot mooring c. £600 per year for 8.8m

Mayflower marina for 4 months £1200 + £90 for electricity - was a special winter treat but after the weather we've had seems an expensive way to leave the boat idle and give her a daily freshwater wash-down!

9m about £2400 in Christchurch along river bank, walk ashore, water and electrics (pay for the units used). Not to sure on next years prices yet. Winter haul out etc extra. Good thing is that yard is friendly and keeps an eye on boats.

Storage possible for whole year

Boat in heated shed min temp 11C for about 9 months of year. Otherwise I'm on the boat and dont need a permanent summer mooring. Cost all in inc cradle mast down and up etc. about £1400 and that is after large rise as VAT is now payable.
Oh yes - this is in Sweden.

Re: Port Charges

I pay £75 for a swinging mooring(4 years waiting) + £50 for a yearly inspection - but it's a 10 minute run in the dinghy and I had to pay for the mooring to be laid... And I pay the Boatyard for 3 months winter storage.
But as others have said it's on the nasty windy muddy East Coast with a treacherous bar at the entrance which is always moving......

I am at Chichester and pay similar to KevB, but new berth applications might pay these new rates at the various Premier sites. (taken from the Premier website)

<ul type="square"> Boat Length: 10.0m

If you take your boat out for the winter ,in sweden you must pay VAT(MOMS) for that (25%).but if you keep your boat in the water there is no VAT.Similarly if your boat is in the water for the summer there is no VAT. There is no logic either

Re: Today i got my port bill! How much do you pay p.a Cant be this muc

Chris,
How much do you pay in Sweden? I pay in Finland 535,- Euros for the berth including el and water, winter 70,- and I have a 40' catamaran and the harbour is not the cheapest rather at the other end.
