I have a very early Tod Tuna She is a 19ft twin screw motor boat with two Ford side valve, (watermota) inboards, Her Name is Dahinda, For the most part she is very original, and in good condition, I brought the boat in Tewkesbury on the river Avon in 2002 I think she had spent most of her time there, She is now with me in the Usa. I know that W&J Todd pioneered the use of production glass fiber boat building and started marketing 12 Grp dinghy's in 1950.
I would love to find out more about my boat, I think she was 5th off the production line for this Model (Part of the Tunny series) that would date her to about 1954 , Can anybody help, I remember some time ago there was as letter to classic boat by a person who use to motor his Todd from the Avon to Bristol(I think) can anybody remember this letter. Also if anybody has any boat built by Tod or information on the yard I would love to hear from you. Shaun

You should have a chat with Mike James that runs COPOC, he might know a bit about Tod.

They were raced a bit in the early days of the Cowes Torquay race.

Hi Shaun and welcome to the forum, might be worth you posting this on the Thames forum as well.
This may help.It is a page from a MBM publication called" 25 years of Motor Cruisers.
It may well still be in print. ibsn 0-7136-3459-6.
There really is a need for a more up to date version but suspect sales would not cover costs.

Thanks

Thank you for the reply, I will print the article and keep it on file. It is hard to find much about W&J Tod, which is surprising when you think that, love the stuff or hate it, they were very instrumental, with help from the Goverment in the start of the Fiber glass revolution, which really for better or worse brought boating to the masses.
My Tod being the 5th Tuna produced, may well be the Oldest UK production Fiberglass motor boat, but I would love to see if any of the other early ones are still around. She still has her original interior cw, China wash hand basin, Head, Twin Side Valve engines, and 6volt electrics. Thanks Again Shaun

Can you please tell me the HP of your Watermotas and what size and pitch your propellers are?

On the basis that "side valve" hasn't visited the forum since 2010 I think you are unlikely to get an answer. May be best to start a new thread.
