Tobermory rain

I thought you were into turning left? Out past Rubha nan Gall and keep going left. Has to be better than Dunstaffanage.
Wouldn't that result in a perpetual circumnavigation of the Isle of Mull? It might get a bit frustrating after the fourth or fifth circuit.

Strictly speaking he would never have made it to Tobermory in the first place, coming around Ardnamurchan, into Loch Sunart and after some interesting meanders down the Sound of Mull onwards...
So al that rain was just not necessary.

bit of a dash south before the weather closes in

so I will come back next year with Katie L and spend a couple of years up here taking a much better look around

beautiful morning today, fresh with gaps in the clouds and the wind in the right direction

My sailing companion is a bit keen on fishing

on Sunday he ate three mackeral for lunch

I think all that activity is just slowing us down

Anywhere is better than Dunstaffnage (imo)

The forecast demands a careful choice of anchorage though (nw backing sw)
There are bound to be places though and unless you have good reason to be in a marina it seems a waste of money especially there.

If you are looking for a good bolt hole to ride out the bad weather I would run down to Puilladobhrain, at least you would be anchored with some great scenery (and a pub a short walk away).

arrived at Dunstaffnage. Office closed. Borrowed a dongle. Got power and internet so we can survive the rain through tomorrow.

It is a quiet rather soul-less place compared to the delights of tobermory. As for anchoring during a west coast 12 hour downpour .... save the anchoring for the nice days - we will be fine here.

We had a brilliant run down the sound of Mull - wind behind us and tide underneath us.

Lovely way to spend a day.

A wet day on the west coast of Scotland, all is normal then. More importantly with two rods and a handline in the cockpit - did you catch anything?

Not this year. It rained here last night for the first time in about 3 weeks...very odd stepping outside and it was raining.

Had a feeling that once you got there you would realise you were scratching the surface and had to come back. Many up here have spent their lives exploring the west coast and still haven't finished!

Better to have the time in Katy L than to try to rush it

Am looking forward to seeing Dylan's films next year of waters I know so well
Might even have to subscribe !

Have only ever been to Dunstaffnage once and it was raining - seemed a dismal place and we vowed never to return. However that is probably unfair and it may be nice in the sun. Their problem is that there are so many lovely places in the area that they have a lot of competition.

Still much prefer to be at anchor if it is windy and pouring with rain, at least you get the elemental feel outside contrasting with the cosiness down below whereas most marinas just feel bleak.

It certainly looks a beautiful morning in the video, but I'm not sure it was the fishing slowing you down. Rowing made all the difference. :)

Are you going over the Falls of Lora, Dylan? Loch Etive is beautiful & pretty big too, with a few sheltered anchorages, probably worth a couple of days & will save you marina charges too. I delivered my first boat there when I sold it, but it has since moved on to the East coast with new owners.
