To epoxy or not (before coppercoating)

The CC on my Azi was applied with a small (4”) roller. As Hurricane states, the application is very sensitive to temperature (best 15c and up) and no rain or condensation. Each coat to be applied when the previous is tacky. We put 7 coats on as we had that amount of CC. Will do the same on our next boat.

Thats a good thick coat.
It should last a long time.
In Spain, we have a very powerful pressure washing station in the boatyard.
All the antifouled boats are subject to their coatings being removed by the pressure washer.
Coppercoat on the other hand quite likes an aggressive wash.
Also, I'm sure that Coppercoat is a better protection for the bottom of the boat - after all it is epoxy.

Coppercoat supply the right amount so that if you use it all you have the right thicknesss.
If you use a mini roller it goes on thinner. So you need more coats.
So his Coppercoat thickness will be the same as yours…….

Agreed it is a protection barrier. Unlike other epoxies it does erode, albeit very very slowly. That’s the only way fresh copper can be exposed to provide longevity. This is why you need to top it up after 15 years or so.

Came out very well in the MBY tests (not that they were very comprehensive).
It did. And Trevor had good results with it.
The cost per annum was flawed (Coppercoat lasts way longer than assumed) but when it comes to antifouling, performance trumps cost within reason.
My nervousness with it is that there is no going back. You can’t use any other type of paint afterward if you don’t like it, short of peeling the hull.
