To Boldly Go........

you had better not turn up on a bicycle !

from one of those sites:-

"AMY DICKERSON'S idea of a national day of protest against cyclists who misuse the towpaths is excellent, writes Tony Haynes.

It is highly likely that responsible boaters all over the country would be happy to protest by partially blocking the towpath next to wherever they're moored, thus forcing the lycra louts to slow down or temporarily dismount. They could also hand out flyers giving advice on safe biking."

I can see much misunderstanding taking place....

words of warning
Narrowboatworld.com is heavily biassed towards the owners thoughts

Well that narrows it down a lot:D

Why the other side though. There is nothing said on Canalworld that wouldnt or even isnt said on here.

I have taken the plunge and joined two (yes TWO) Narrowboat forums - canalworld.net and narrowboatworld.com

As a starter I have posted to the the following on the narrowboatworld forum:

http://www.narrowboatworld.com/index.php?option=com_ccboard&view=postlist&forum=1&topic=180

I will now sit back and wait for one of them to invite me for cocktails.........

Can you post that one on Canalworld? Rafting up is always a good topic to bring out the claws of the sewer tube owners.

Any feedback on when NBers going to the IWA Festival at Beale Park are planning to arrive there? They should all be there by the Saturday at the latest, but hope fully some will get there early and stay late so giving us a free run over the weekend.

Ian

I thought you'd been out boating the last few weeks, if you have been you'll have hundreds of them, and many left around the area. I've been taking a note of those that have been left & where; obviously quite a few already at Beale Park, some at Pangebourne etc. A good example is one called "Columbia", in the really nice and only deep mooring above Mapledurham. Yesterday I made it's been there two weeks now, I assume it will be there at least another three. The problem with all this is that for those who go off on holiday for two weeks, the availability of moorings has been adversely affected. I understand some narrowboats are already in the enclosed lake at Beale Park, why not let them all in to reduce the effect on those of us who want to use the Thames in the manner we've paid out licence fee for.
Anybody notice the large numbers in the front windows of the narrowboats? We speculated on the reasons, it's so the lockies know the length and can judge what can get in.

If only I had been out......................... having been off the river for two weeks I've just been planning the next three weeks, hopefully will make two of them at least. Really don't know what to do about the Bank Holiday though.

Glad I've missed the bingo numbered NBs to date anyway, I remember what it was like last time! It was quite a good sight to see them all harnessed together like they belong together.

I usually try to avoid cross-posting to similar groups as it tends to annoy.

Why don't you post to canalworld and link to it either here or on narrowboatworld.

The more we try to get this message out there nicely, the more likely we are to see some shift in attitude and with the IWA coming up Thames users could use a bit of harmony over the next few weeks

PS - wots all this 'ditto' business about .... :D

Oh i dont think it will annoy them.................:D

Well. they are annoying me as, 24 hours after I registered, I am still a 'provisional' member so not able to post .... grrrrr.

So if you want my epistle on rafting to be seen there you will need to act, m'lady !

Have you not had a email to verify the account?

Yep - did that straight away but I have just done it again to be sure to be sure.

Then get a message which says:

must think I'm from the dark side or summink....... or maybe my reputation precedes me :D
